In mid-2021, recruitment started. Qualified candidates registered using a departmental website. Education requirements were a passing grade in the 10th grade from a recognized education board. Applicants were given until September 25 to submit their online applications. An overwhelming number of applicants submitted their applications. There are 581 posts in all.

Candidates are selected for Uttarakhand GDS based on their 10th-grade marks. If two candidates have the same score in the 10th standard, the candidate who achieved the score on the first try will be given preference. Also, the selection process will take into account the age of the candidate. Junior aspirants will be favoured over those of higher age.
